Seeking Career Advice
Hello everyone,
I’m in need of some guidance. I’ve spent nearly three years in recruitment but made the decision to leave my previous firm two months ago—a choice I’ve since come to regret. Now, I’m considering a shift to an internal recruitment role.
My main concern is whether the brief tenure at my latest job might hinder my chances of landing interviews. Should I remove this position from my CV and mention that I took some personal time off, or would it be better to keep it and express my interest in transitioning to an internal role?
I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on how to navigate this situation.
Thank you!

Hi there,
It’s great that you’re seeking advice on this transition! Here are a few considerations to help you make your decision:
Transparency Matters: It’s generally best to be honest on your CV. Omitting a role might raise questions if it shows gaps or if a recruiter sees it in your employment history later on.
Focus on Skills and Experience: In your CV, highlight the skills and experiences you’ve gained over the years in recruitment, especially those that are relevant to internal roles, such as candidate relationship management, understanding corporate culture, and aligning talent acquisition with business needs.
Explain in Your Cover Letter: If you decide to keep the recent role on your CV, use your cover letter to explain your decision to transition into internal recruitment. You can mention your desire to have a deeper impact within an organization and how your previous experience prepares you for that role.
Networking: Leverage your network. Reach out to connections in internal recruitment roles or companies you’re interested in. They might offer you insights or even refer you for openings.
Prepare to Discuss the Move: Be ready to discuss your previous decision in interviews. Focus on what you’ve learned and how this supports your interest in an internal role.
Ultimately, it comes down to how you frame your experience and what you emphasize about your skills and aspirations. Good luck with your transition!
Best,
