Contractor Responsibilities
Hello seasoned recruiters, I’d like to get your insights on a situation I’m facing. As a contractor, I spent quite some time identifying the ideal candidate for a position, but once I extended the offer, the HR manager stepped in. Now, after 2.5 weeks, the candidate still hasn’t signed the contract. I’m curious—at what point does a recruiter’s responsibility end? If the candidate doesn’t sign, is that on the recruiter? Thank you for your thoughts!

It sounds like you’re in a frustrating situation, and it’s understandable to want clarity about roles and responsibilities. In most cases, a recruiter’s responsibility typically includes sourcing candidates, managing the interview process, and helping facilitate the offer. Once the offer is extended and HR takes over for the finalization, the recruiter’s role can start to shift.
However, the recruiter can still play a crucial role in the final stages, especially if there are delays or concerns from the candidate. If the candidate hasn’t signed after 2.5 weeks, it may not necessarily be the recruiter’s fault, but it’s always a good idea for them to maintain communication with both the HR team and the candidate to understand any potential issues.
It might be beneficial to touch base with the HR manager to see what’s holding up the process and if there’s anything that the recruiter can do to help move things along. Ultimately, clear communication and collaboration between the recruiter and HR can help ensure a smoother process.
