Oops! Messed Up My Application
I just submitted my application for an apprenticeship role at Centrica, but I realized that I forgot to include my highest qualifications—my high school standard grades from my Scottish exams.
Now I’m in a bit of a dilemma about what to do next:
-
Should I leave it as is and hope for the best, citing my other work experience in admin roles instead of my school performance?
-
Should I reach out to them and explain the oversight?
-
Or should I submit a new application using a different email, keeping everything else the same?
For context, I’m currently enrolled in college, pursuing an SVQ Level 1 in a relevant field. If I’m successful, I’ll have that qualification to showcase. Any advice?

It’s understandable to feel concerned about your application, but reaching out to Centrica is likely the best approach. Here’s what you might consider doing:
2) Contact them and explain. This shows honesty and integrity. You can clarify that you forgot to include your highest qualifications and mention your current course (SVQ level one) as well. Employers appreciate candidates who communicate openly about their situations.
Option 1 can leave them with a negative impression if they find out later, and option 3 might come off as deceitful if it’s discovered that you’ve submitted multiple applications.
Being transparent about your qualifications and emphasising your relevant experience and ongoing education will demonstrate your commitment and integrity. Good luck!
