Market Conditions or Unreliable Agencies?
Hello everyone, I was recently laid off from my previous role at a small niche agency with a team of just six. I’m currently looking for a new position in the same industry and have interviewed with 7 to 8 different companies. One particular company has brought me in for five interviews for the same role!
I’ve received only a couple of formal rejections, but for most of the interviews I’ve had, I’ve been left without any feedback. A few of these opportunities came through recruitment-to-recruitment agencies, and I’ve similarly received no follow-up from them.
Do you think this is a reflection of the current state of the market, or am I just encountering some unreliable agencies?

I’m sorry to hear about your redundancy and the challenges you’re facing in the job market. It sounds frustrating to go through multiple interviews and then not hear back. In today’s climate, there are a few factors that could be at play.
First, the job market can indeed be quite fickle, especially in niche sectors where competition can be fierce. Many companies might be taking longer to make decisions due to internal reviews, budget constraints, or simply an overwhelming number of applications.
Additionally, the agencies you’re working with may vary in quality and responsiveness. Some might not have the best communication practices, leading to a lack of follow-up. If you’re noticing a pattern of silence, it might be worth considering whether you’re getting the right support from your current recruiters.
It may also be beneficial to diversify your job search. Consider reaching out to companies directly, leveraging your network, or exploring platforms specialized in your sector. Additionally, getting feedback from interviews, if possible, can provide insights that might help improve your chances moving forward.
Keep your spirits up, and don’t hesitate to ask for help from your connections. Good luck!
