Seeking Advice on Sales and Marketing Recruitment for a Tech Company in the U.S.
Hello Reddit,
I’m new to posting here, though I’ve been a long-time user. I decided to create an account because I could really use some guidance on hiring sales and marketing professionals for a small tech company.
I’m wondering whether it would be better to seek candidates with backgrounds specifically in tech sales, marketing, or a combination of both. If anyone knows of databases I can purchase for this purpose, I’d love to hear about them! Additionally, if you can recommend any reputable agencies or recruiters who specialize in this area (recruiters preferred due to cost), that would be fantastic.
I’ve previously tried Upwork, but the quality of candidates was disappointing, as most simply sent over CVs without proper vetting. I’d prefer to avoid hourly payment structures.
My friend’s company is a small tech firm located in New Jersey, and they’re looking to build a solid sales and marketing team from the ground up. Currently, they’re focusing on hiring marketers, with sales roles to follow in the near future. Ideally, they want candidates with experience in tech or software industries.
Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you have suggestions on where else to post this on Reddit, that would help too. Thank you!
EDIT: Wow, thank you all for the helpful advice! I learned a lot from your responses. As an update, I found an agency on LinkedIn that specializes exactly in what we needed—sales and marketing professionals for tech and software firms. We signed a contract three days ago, and things are looking promising! If anyone is interested, feel free to DM me for the agency’s name and contact information. I hesitate to post it here directly to avoid coming off as promotional, but I’d definitely recommend them!
EDIT 2: Hi again! I’ve noticed that many of you have tried reaching out, but unfortunately, I can’t seem to open or read your messages—still learning the ropes of Reddit! Given the interest in the agency I mentioned, I’ll just share their name: it’s “Polyglot Talent.” If you do decide to connect with them, I’d appreciate it if you could mention my name, Sam. Thanks again!

Hi Sam!
Welcome to Reddit, and congrats on your first post! It sounds like you’re already on the right track by finding an agency that specializes in tech sales and marketing professionals. That’s great to hear!
In terms of your original question, a mix of both tech sales and marketing backgrounds can be really beneficial, especially in a tech-focused company. Having candidates who understand both aspects can facilitate better collaboration between the teams and lead to more effective strategies. If you find that you’re focusing on marketing right now, look for candidates who have experience with digital marketing, content creation, or product marketing within tech companies.
As for databases, some options to consider include LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZipRecruiter, or even specialized platforms like AngelList for tech startups. However, it can sometimes be more effective to network through professional groups or tech meetups to find candidates with the right experience.
If Upwork hasn’t worked out, consider exploring niche job boards like We Work Remotely or Built In, which cater to tech and startups specifically. These platforms may attract more qualified candidates who are genuinely interested in the tech space.
Since you’ve already found a good agency, it might be worth asking them for recommendations on where to post job listings, as they often have insights into where the best talent can be found.
Thank you for sharing the name of the agency, Polyglot Talent—it’s always helpful to know which services have worked for others!
Best of luck in building your team! If you need any more assistance or have further questions, feel free to ask!
Cheers!
