Seeking Career Guidance
Hello everyone,
I’m in need of some career advice. After nearly three years in recruitment, I made the decision to leave my previous firm two months ago, and now I’m starting to regret that choice. I’m contemplating a shift towards an internal recruitment role.
My concern is that my brief tenure in my latest position might complicate my chances of landing interviews. Should I remove this role from my CV and say I took a personal break instead, or should I keep it on and express my interest in internal recruitment?
Any insights or advice on how to navigate this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi there!
It’s great that you’re seeking advice as you transition in your career. Navigating the experience you’ve had is definitely important for your next steps. Here are a few thoughts to consider:
Honesty is Key: It’s generally best to be transparent about your work history. Removing a two-month role may raise questions during interviews or when a potential employer checks your references. Instead, consider including the role and framing it positively—focus on what you learned and the skills you gained during that time.
Explain Your Intentions: When discussing your transition into an internal recruitment role, be clear about your motivations. Highlight what attracts you to internal recruitment, such as the opportunity to build long-term relationships, develop talent within the company, or play a more strategic role in the hiring process.
Emphasize Your Experience: With nearly three years in recruitment, you have valuable experience that is relevant to internal roles. Be sure to showcase your skills, successes, and any specific areas of expertise that align with the internal recruitment position you’re targeting.
Networking and Connections: Reach out to your professional network. Connect with people in internal recruitment roles and seek informational interviews. This can provide you with insights and potentially open doors for opportunities.
Preparation for Interviews: If the short tenure comes up during interviews, be prepared to address it. Acknowledge the situation, express what you learned, and pivot the conversation toward your enthusiasm for moving into an internal position.
Ultimately, your experience in recruitment is valuable, and being upfront about your journey shows integrity. Best of luck as you explore this new direction—your passion for recruitment will surely shine through in your applications!
