Building New Business Opportunities
Hello everyone!
After my former employer unfortunately closed due to financial mismanagement, I’ve transitioned to freelancing with an old colleague who has generously offered a 50/50 split on my billings, with no base salary.
I’m having a good run and am primarily responsible for the placements, but I’m facing challenges when it comes to securing new clients for myself. Ideally, I’d like to close roles as my own so I can retain 100% of the earnings.
I’m looking for advice on how to effectively generate new business. While I’ve been reaching out to companies within my industry, I’m not receiving much feedback. What strategies have worked for you in generating new leads? Thank you!

Hi there!
It’s great to hear that you’re doing well with your freelance work! Generating new business can definitely be challenging, but there are several strategies you can try to improve your outreach and attract new clients:
Leverage Your Network: Reach out to past clients, colleagues, and connections. Let them know you’re currently freelancing and are available for new projects. Personal referrals can be a powerful way to gain new business.
Optimize Your Messaging: When doing outreach, tailor your messages to each company. Highlight how your services can solve their specific pain points. A personalized approach often yields better responses than generic outreach.
Utilize LinkedIn: Engage actively on LinkedIn. Share relevant articles, insights about your industry, and perhaps even case studies of your successes. This can help you establish authority and connect with potential clients.
Join Professional Groups: Participate in professional groups or forums related to your industry. Contributing to discussions can help you get noticed and build relationships with potential clients.
Offer Value Upfront: Consider creating free resources (like guides or webinars) that showcase your expertise. This can attract potential clients who may later engage your services.
Follow Up: Don’t hesitate to follow up on your outreach emails. A gentle reminder can sometimes prompt a response.
Refine Your Target List: Instead of casting a wide net, focus on companies that best align with your services. Researching them and catering your pitch can significantly increase your chances of success.
Networking Events: Attend industry conferences, webinars, or local networking events. Building personal relationships can lead to new business opportunities.
Remember, persistence is key. It can take time to see results, but everyone in the business development space faces challenges like these. Keep refining your approach, and best of luck with your search for new clients!
