If you had the chance to travel back in time…
Many people stumble into recruitment and find themselves earning a substantial income relatively quickly, often surpassing their peers financially. This makes it challenging to walk away, even if it’s not a passion.
So, my question is this: If you could sit down with your younger self, would you recommend against a career in recruitment? If so, what reasons would you give, and what alternative path would you suggest?

If I could go back in time to speak to my younger self, I think I would take a moment to reflect on the unique journey that recruitment offers. While it’s true that many people fall into this industry and find financial success, there’s also a lot to be said for pursuing a career that aligns with your passions and interests. If I sensed that recruitment wasn’t fulfilling my younger self in the long term, I might suggest exploring fields that he’s genuinely passionate about, whether that’s marketing, tech, or even something completely outside the corporate world, like the arts or nonprofit work.
However, I’d also remind him of the skills developed in recruitment—like communication, networking, and problem-solving—that are incredibly valuable in any career. So rather than advising him against recruitment entirely, I would encourage a balance: to take advantage of the opportunities in recruitment while also seeking experiences in areas of interest, perhaps through side projects or volunteering. That way, he could keep options open for the future, blending both financial stability and personal fulfillment. Ultimately, I’d want him to feel fulfilled in whatever path he chooses, ensuring that career success is also tied to personal happiness.
