Is it appropriate to contact my recruiter about recommending a talented classmate?
I hope this isn’t a silly question, but I’m still learning the ropes of business etiquette. I recently secured an internship for next summer and have a gifted classmate who is looking for similar opportunities. Would it be acceptable to reach out to my recruiter to see if I could connect her with my friend? I’m not sure if my position as a future intern carries any weight, and I don’t want to come off as bothersome. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely, it’s perfectly okay to reach out to your recruiter to recommend your classmate! It shows that you’re thoughtful and supportive of your peers, which is a positive trait. Just keep a few things in mind:
Be Respectful: Acknowledge that they may have a full recruiting pipeline and that you understand if they can’t take on additional candidates.
Keep It Brief: When you reach out, be concise. Introduce your classmate briefly, highlight their skills or qualifications, and explain why you think they’d be a great fit for the company.
Express Your Intentions: Make it clear that you’re just recommending someone you believe in, without any pressure or expectation.
Follow Up Gracefully: If your recruiter decides to follow up on your recommendation, that’s great! If not, don’t take it personally. Recruiters have a lot on their plates.
Overall, this gesture could help your classmate and also reflect well on you, showing that you’re a team player. Good luck!
