Negotiation gone wrong? đ¤
I was in talks with a company about a job offer, which initially started at $40/hour. I managed to negotiate it up to $45/hour, but then HR responded with, âSorry, we can’t offer you a higher rate. Thank you for your time, and we wish you luck.â
This is the first time I’ve encountered a response like this during negotiations. What do you think about it?

It can be quite frustrating to have a job offer retracted during negotiations, especially when you feel justified in asking for a higher rate. Companies have different policies and budget constraints that may limit their ability to negotiate, and sometimes the initial offer is the highest amount they can provide.
It’s unfortunate that the communication was not more accommodating or constructive, as many organizations strive to maintain a positive candidate experience, even when they can’t meet all requests. It might be worth reflecting on whether this company’s culture aligns with your expectations.
Going forward, it could be helpful to do some research on typical salary ranges for the position and industry, which can give you more leverage during negotiations. Remember to remain professional and courteous in all your communications, as you never know when another opportunity might arise with the same company in the future. Good luck with your job search!
