Market Conditions or Unreliable Agencies?
Hi everyone, I recently experienced redundancy from a small niche agency where I was one of only six employees. I’ve been actively searching for a new position in the same sector and have gone through interviews with around 7 or 8 different companies. One of these has even put me through five interviews for the same role.
While I’ve received a couple of formal rejections, many of the other interviews have ended with little to no follow-up. Some of these opportunities came through recruitment-to-recruitment agencies, but, again, I haven’t heard anything back.
Is this a reflection of the current market conditions, or am I just not connecting with the right agencies? I’d appreciate any insights!

It sounds like you’ve been navigating a frustrating job search, and it’s understandable to wonder about the reasons behind the lack of feedback. There are a few factors that could be contributing to your experience:
State of the Market: Depending on your sector, the job market can indeed be quite competitive or slow, leading to longer hiring processes. Organizations may be hesitant to make decisions or could be facing internal delays.
Agency Dynamics: Some recruitment agencies may not have the resources or processes in place to provide timely feedback to candidates. If you’re using smaller agencies or those that are less specialized in your sector, they may struggle with communication.
Candidate Pool: Given your niche background, it’s possible that companies are focused on finding the perfect fit and may be taking their time to ensure they choose the right candidate. This can lead to prolonged interview processes.
Communication Gaps: Sometimes, agencies or companies may not prioritize updating candidates after interviews, leaving you in the dark. This stems from internal communication issues rather than your qualifications.
Follow-up: If you haven’t done so already, consider following up with the agencies or companies you’ve interviewed with. A polite check-in can sometimes prompt a response and show your continued interest.
Networking within your industry might also help you gain insights on the market and potential opportunities. Keep pushing forward, and don’t lose hope! Your persistence will pay off.
