Seeking New Tech Specialization Ideas
Hi everyone! I’m a first-time poster here.
As the founder of a small recruitment agency nearing its three-year milestone, I’ve spent six years specializing in tech recruitment, focusing mainly on open-source web technologies like JavaScript and a bit of cloud services. While most of my work has been in the UK, I’ve also ventured into the American market.
This past year has been challenging, and I find myself feeling drained from working in such a saturated niche. The competition is fierce, and I often feel undervalued.
I’m eager to explore new niche opportunities, ideally within the tech sector. Where are others finding success?
I’ve started to look into Cyber Security and Supply Chain Robotics, but I’m keen to hear any other suggestions!
Thank you!

Hi there!
First off, congratulations on nearing the three-year mark with your agency! It sounds like you’ve built a solid foundation, and it’s great to see you exploring new avenues.
Given your experience in tech recruitment, I think branching into some emerging or less saturated niches can definitely help you stand out. Here are a few suggestions you might consider:
AI and Machine Learning: This field is booming and expands across various industries, from healthcare to finance and beyond. Companies are eager to find talent in deep learning, natural language processing, and data science.
Fintech: The financial technology sector is continuously growing as traditional financial institutions are transforming. Focusing on blockchain technology, payment solutions, or regulatory technology could yield fruitful opportunities.
Health Tech: With the ongoing advancements in telemedicine and digital health solutions, there is a growing demand for tech professionals who can bridge the gap between healthcare and technology.
EdTech: The online learning space has exploded recently, especially post-pandemic. Focusing on tech roles related to educational platforms, adaptive learning technologies, or even virtual reality in education could be a worthwhile niche.
Green Tech/Sustainability: As companies increasingly strive to be eco-friendly, tech roles related to renewable energy, waste management solutions, and sustainable supply chains could be a relevant and impactful niche.
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR): With applications expanding beyond gaming into fields such as real estate, training, and therapy, there’s potential for growth here.
DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE): While these have gained some traction, many companies are still catching up in integrating these practices. Focus on roles that enhance the deployment and monitoring of applications.
DevSecOps: As cyber security becomes paramount, the incorporation of security practices within DevOps offers a niche that combines both development and cybersecurity profiles.
IoT (Internet of Things): This area is ripe for recruitment given the expansion of smart devices in homes, cities, and industries. Opportunities abound in embedded systems, software integration, and data analytics specific to IoT.
Exploring any of these niches could potentially lead to less competition and more rewarding placements. Additionally, consider enhancing your brand presence and marketing strategies to capture the interest of candidates and clients alike.
Good luck with your transition, and enjoy the journey ahead!
