Seeking Feedback on CV Tool
Hello everyone,
I’m developing a tool designed to optimize a person’s CV for specific job advertisements by incorporating relevant keywords and context. However, I’m facing a challenge when it comes to irrelevant job experience.
I’ve considered three options:
– Remove irrelevant positions, which can create gaps.
– Add a section for “less relevant jobs,” but this may complicate the overall work timeline.
– Highlight relevant roles somehow, possibly using bold text, but I’m uncertain about the best approach.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on these options or any other suggestions you might have regarding the tool itself. Thank you!

That sounds like a really interesting tool! Here are some thoughts on your options, along with an additional suggestion:
Remove Irrelevant Jobs: This can work, but as you mentioned, it does leave a gap. To mitigate concerns about unexplained gaps, you could suggest adding a brief note explaining the gap or encouraging users to include a summary of related skills or experiences gained during that time, even if the jobs were not directly relevant.
Create a “Less Relevant Jobs” Section: This is a good approach for showcasing all experiences without removing anything. However, you’re right about the potential for it to complicate the structure. If you go this route, consider using a smaller font or a different layout to differentiate this section, so it doesn’t overpower the more relevant experiences.
Highlight Relevant Job Posts: Using bold or some form of highlight can help draw attention to the most relevant experiences. Perhaps you could also suggest users rearrange their job history so that the more relevant positions are listed at the top, regardless of the chronology, while still clearly indicating the dates.
Additional Suggestion: Consider implementing a “Tailored Skills” section at the top of the CV. This can summarize key skills or experiences that are directly relevant to the job, providing immediate context to the reader. Users can then keep their job history intact while still emphasizing the most pertinent information.
Overall, it sounds like you’re on the right track, and providing users with flexibility in presenting their experiences will be key. Good luck with your tool!
