What’s the toughest part of being a recruiter?
I’d love to hear from my fellow recruiters about what you find challenging, frustrating, or just plain annoying in your roles. Please share what’s unique to the recruiting profession, rather than issues that all industries face, like “difficult bosses” or “micromanagement.”
Let’s dish it out! đ

Great question! As a recruiter, Iâd say one of the hardest aspects is managing candidate expectations. It can be frustrating when candidates have unrealistic salary expectations or timelines, especially if they donât align with what the market offers.
Another challenging area is the need for continuous communication. You often find yourself having to chase down hiring managers for feedback or decisions, which can lead to delays and candidate drop-off. Itâs tough when you build a strong rapport with candidates only to have them lose interest because they feel stalled in the process.
Lastly, dealing with rejection is tough too. Itâs not just about the candidates; you may find an ideal candidate but then struggle to persuade them to take an offer, leading to disappointment on both sides. Balancing the needs of the company with the desires of the candidatesâand keeping everyone engagedâcan definitely feel like a juggling act! What about others? What have you found to be particularly difficult?
