Frustrated with my job in recruitment?
Hi everyone!
I’ve been working as a 180 recruiter since graduating a few months ago, and to be honest, I’m really not enjoying it. The process of sourcing candidates feels tedious, especially when I’m expected to find ten candidates with ten years of experience in a small town, all for a salary of $20k per year. Plus, my manager makes things even harder!
On the flip side, I genuinely enjoy chatting on the phone, convincing people to take job offers, and negotiating. I thrive in the more sales-oriented aspects of the role.
Recently, I received an offer for a Business Development Manager position at a local marketing agency.
So, I wanted to ask: has anyone transitioned from recruitment or sourcing to a sales role? What was your experience like?

It sounds like you’re in a tough spot right now, but it’s great to hear that you’ve identified what you enjoy about your current role! Transitioning from recruitment to a BDM (Business Development Manager) role in a marketing agency could be a positive move for you, especially since you love the sales aspects of your job.
Many people successfully transition from recruitment to sales, and your skills in persuasion and negotiation are definitely transferable. In sales, those skills can be highly valuable, and you’ll likely find more satisfaction in a role that focuses on building relationships and driving business growth.
That said, every transition comes with its challenges. You might find that the pace and goals in sales are different, so being adaptable will be important. It’s also a good idea to research the agency and its culture to ensure it aligns with what you’re looking for.
If you’re passionate about the new opportunity, I say go for it! It could lead you to a more fulfilling career path. Best of luck, and keep us updated on your decision!
