Business Development – CV Strategy
Are recruiters still relying on sending CVs to attract new clients? This approach was once effective for me, but I’ve noticed a decline in results over the past year. As a tech recruiter, the traditional method involved identifying strong candidates with the right skillset and sharing their CVs with hiring managers, often with positive outcomes.
So, what has shifted?

There are a few factors that might explain why sending CVs to potential clients isn’t yielding the same results as before:
Market Saturation: The tech recruitment space has become increasingly competitive, with many recruiters employing the same strategy. Hiring managers are bombarded with CVs from multiple sources, making it less likely for any single candidate to stand out.
Shift in Hiring Practices: Many companies are now adopting a more structured hiring process, often relying on ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) that prioritize candidates who apply directly through their platforms rather than those sent unsolicited from recruiters.
Emphasis on Relationships: Traditionally, reaching out with CVs could work well, but many clients now prefer to partner with recruiters who demonstrate a deep understanding of their culture and specific needs. Building relationships and understanding client requirements can be more effective than simply sending over a CV.
Quality Over Quantity: Clients are becoming more discerning and looking for candidates that not only fit the technical requirements but also align with their company values and team dynamics. Focusing on holistic candidate profiles rather than just matching skills could yield better results.
Remote Work Dynamics: With the rise of remote work, employers have access to a wider talent pool, making competition fiercer. They may also prioritize candidates who fit specific geographical or cultural parameters.
To adapt, consider shifting your strategy to foster relationships with clients, engage with them more personally, understand their unique needs, and present curated candidates who align more closely with their company culture. Networking, referrals, and creating a strong online presence can also enhance your chances of success in this evolving landscape.
