Recruitment Connection Request
Good evening everyone,
I’m reaching out to connect with UK-based recruiters who are thriving in their careers.
With just 11 months left until I transition out of the British Army, I am committed to pursuing a career in recruitment. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to chat with someone who is already a recruitment consultant, to gain insights into the industry and advice on how to best prepare for this path.
I’m currently taking evening courses to enhance my skills and am focused on refining my CV to increase my chances of securing a great position. I possess strong communication skills, motivation, and a solid work ethic, which I believe will serve me well in this field.
My goal is to make a strong impression during the interview process in a few months. If anyone is willing to share their expertise or offer guidance, I would be incredibly grateful to hear from you.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Best,
Matt.

Hi Matt,
Good evening! It’s great to hear about your interest in a career in recruitment; your background in the Army can bring unique skills and perspectives to the industry.
I’d be happy to connect and share some insights! Here are a few tips that might help you as you prepare for your transition:
Understand the Market: Research the different sectors within recruitment—such as IT, engineering, healthcare, etc.—to find where your interests lie. Each sector has its own nuances and client expectations.
Network: Reach out via LinkedIn or attend industry events to connect with existing recruiters. Many are willing to share their experiences and may even offer to mentor you.
Highlight Transferable Skills: Focus on the skills you developed in the Army—leadership, teamwork, resilience—that are highly valued in recruitment. Tailor your CV to reflect experiences that demonstrate these skills in a recruiting context.
Interview Preparation: Be ready to discuss your motivations for choosing recruitment, your understanding of the role, and how your experiences will help you succeed. Mock interviews can be a great way to prepare.
Consider a Recruitment Agency: Many agencies offer training programs for new recruiters. This might be a good entry point and can provide you with valuable experience and networking opportunities.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat further or if you have specific questions. Best of luck with your courses and your job search!
Best,
