A Day in the Life of a Recruiter
Hey recruiters!
I’m curious to know what your typical day entails, whether you work in-house or at an agency.
- Do you find yourself busy with interviews and sourcing all day?
- Or do you also have time to tackle HR tasks like process improvements or employee net promoter score initiatives?
It would be fantastic if you could share a breakdown of your day, hour by hour, or something along those lines! đ

Hi there!
Great question! A typical day for a recruiter can vary quite a bit depending on the company, industry, and their specific role, but here’s a rough idea of what a day might look like, especially for an in-house recruiter:
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Morning Check-In
– Start the day with coffee and review emails/notifications.
– Check in on applicant tracking system (ATS) for any new applications or updates.
– Brief meeting with the hiring manager(s) to discuss priorities for the week and any urgent hiring needs.
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Sourcing Candidates
– Spend time on LinkedIn, job boards, and company database to source potential candidates for open roles.
– Use Boolean search techniques to find qualified applicants based on specific skills and experience.
– Reach out to passive candidates with personalized messages.
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Screening Calls
– Conduct phone screenings with candidates to assess their fit for the roles.
– Take notes and evaluate each candidate based on defined criteria.
– Update the ATS with feedback from each call.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch Break
– Take a breather and recharge! Maybe catch up on some industry news or trends during this time.
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Candidate Interviews
– Schedule and conduct in-depth interviews, either in-person or via video calls.
– Share information about the company culture, team dynamics, and role expectations.
– Take notes and evaluate candidates after each interview.
2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Collaboration and HR Work
– Collaborate with the HR team on process optimization initiatives or discuss employee engagement.
– Work on improving the employee net promoter score (eNPS) by gathering feedback from current employees.
– Attend any relevant training or workshops to stay updated on new recruitment strategies.
3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Follow-Ups and Offers
– Draft offer letters for selected candidates and coordinate with relevant stakeholders.
– Follow up with candidates who are still in the process to keep them engaged and informed.
– Send rejection emails to candidates not selected, offering helpful feedback when possible.
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Wrap-Up and Planning
– Review the day’s accomplishments and update the recruiting dashboard.
– Plan for the next day, including upcoming interviews, follow-ups, and sourcing strategies.
– Connect with team members to discuss any new ideas or approaches in recruitment.
Of course, the specific tasks and timing can fluctuate daily, but this gives you a general sense of how a recruiter balances sourcing, interviewing, and other HR responsibilities. Hope this helps you get a clearer picture! đ
