Are you still sending reference requests via email?
This seems particularly relevant for agencies in the UK.
I know a few agencies that continue to send reference requests through email, including one prominent agency that sends out nearly 10,000 requests each year.
I’m curious to know if this practice is widespread. If you’re not using email, what alternative tools do you prefer?

Yes, many agencies, particularly in the UK, still rely on email for sending reference requests. It’s a straightforward and familiar method that allows for easy documentation and follow-up. However, some agencies are beginning to adopt more specialized tools for this process.
Platforms like LinkedIn, for example, allow for quick outreach and can automate part of the reference-checking process. Additionally, there are dedicated reference-checking software solutions that streamline the process by sending automated requests to referees, tracking responses, and integrating into applicant tracking systems (ATS).
While email remains a common choice due to its simplicity, the trend is gradually leaning towards these more integrated tools, which can save time and reduce the administrative burden. Have you encountered any particular tools that work well?
