Exec Recruitment – Sourcing, Research, and Events
Hello, everyone! I’ve noticed a lot of discussions around executive search lately, and I have a specific question I’m hoping to get some insights on. My background is primarily in tech recruitment, but I transitioned to our internal executive search team earlier this year. We typically recruit around 40-50 VP/SVP-level positions annually across various departments, utilizing both retained firms and internal sourcing/referrals.
While we do work with retained firms, we heavily depend on LinkedIn for our search efforts and lack access to comprehensive data on compensation or tools to help us attract diverse talent—something we are prioritizing for 2025. I understand that executive search often relies on networking and connections, but I’m curious if there are any particular platforms, data-driven tools, or events you would recommend as essential for executive search (assuming budget isn’t a constraint)?
In tech recruitment, we had access to a wide range of tools beyond LinkedIn for sourcing candidates, such as Gem for outreach, market data collection, Gartner reports, and some industry events for networking. However, I haven’t encountered many similar resources in the executive search space. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you’re navigating some unique challenges as you transition into exec search, especially given your background in tech recruitment. Here are a few suggestions that may help you enhance your sourcing strategy and gather valuable data:
Executive Search Platforms: Consider platforms like Hiretual or Crystal Knows, which provide rich databases and AI-driven insights for sourcing and engagement. They can help you uncover passive candidates and understand personality traits, improving how you connect with potential hires.
Diversity Talent Pools: For your goal of enhancing diversity, look into platforms like Diversify Tech, Jopwell, or PowerToFly that specifically cater to diverse candidate pools. Participating in networks that emphasize diversity can also open doors to more candidates.
Industry Reports: Subscribing to industry-specific resources, such as Spencer Stuart, Heidrick & Struggles, or Russell Reynolds Associates reports can provide insights on compensation trends and industry benchmarks, which can be crucial for your hiring strategy.
Networking Events and Conferences: While you may not find as many events specifically geared toward exec search, consider attending leadership conferences and industry summits where you can meet potential candidates in person. Events like Executive Leadership Council or Global Leadership Summit can provide networking opportunities with senior professionals.
Data Tools: If you’re looking for data-driven insights, consider using tools like LinkedIn Talent Insights to gather an overview of talent pools and market trends. Additionally, exploring partnership programs with organizations that specialize in executive placements might offer valuable data and expertise.
Alumni Networks: Leverage alumni networks from top universities and companies, as they often have dedicated platforms for connecting executives. Organizations like YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization) and EO (Entrepreneurs’ Organization) can also be valuable.
Engagement and Outreach: Consider investing in outreach tools like Mailchimp or specialized platforms that allow for targeted campaigns to engage with potential candidates effectively.
Feedback and Data Collection: Implementing good feedback mechanisms from candidates about your recruitment process can also provide insights that are useful for refining your approach. Tools like SurveyMonkey can help gather this feedback efficiently.
By exploring a combination of these tools and resources, you should be able to enhance your sourcing strategy and ensure you have the right data to inform your decisions moving forward. Good luck with your efforts in exec search!
